  • Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), also known as Chinese date, is an interesting exotic plant that is easy to cultivate in our conditions. In the Mediterranean region, it is considered a native plant. In China and India, they are still grown on plantations today and are equally important in these countries as apples, primarily because they are very easy to cultivate (without pests, they adapt) and bring a rich harvest every year without fluctuations.
  • Jujube, also known as Chinese date, has its origin in China and is cultivated in various parts of Asia, Central Asia, and India. It is also known by various names such as Chinese date, Japanese date, or Indian date.
  • Jujube is a deciduous shrub or small tree that can reach a height of up to 5-8 meters. The leaves are green, oval, and have a smooth surface structure.
  • In May, small flowers form; it is a self-pollinating variety. To increase the yield, it is advisable to plant two plants.
  • The color of the fruits can be yellow, green when ripe, turning brownish. Ripe jujubes have a sweet taste that can resemble the taste of apples. Their flesh is crunchy, with a pit in the center. Jujubes are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They contain vitamin C, B vitamins, iron, calcium, and other important nutrients.
  • The fruits of the jujube ripen from September to October. They can be stored for a long time without losing quality. In traditional Chinese medicine, jujube is used to support the immune system, improve digestion, and reduce stress. The fruits are consumed fresh, dried, or used to make beverages, jams, and other products.
  • Jujube is a resilient tree that tolerates dry and hot conditions well. It is less demanding in terms of soil and is frost-resistant down to -25 degrees Celsius.
