Name: Blueberry (Vaccinium virgatum, syn. Vaccinium ashei)
Origin: Southeastern United States. It got its name because the unripe fruits are pink in color, resembling the eye of an albino rabbit.
Characteristic features
Growth: Very vigorous and vigorous shrubs that can grow up to 2-4 meters in height. They are the most tolerant of heat and drought.
Fruits: Medium-sized, with a firmer skin and sometimes a slightly grainy texture. They are very sweet, but with a different flavor nuance than Highbush types. They ripen later in the season.
Cold requirements: Very low, similar to southern varieties (100-550 hours).
Pollination: They are strictly cross-pollinated. For a harvest, it is absolutely necessary to plant at least two different varieties of this type.
