The 'Nefris' cherry is a Polish, partially self-pollinating late variety characterized by compact growth, high fertility, and excellent fruit quality. The tree grows moderately vigorously, forming a dense, easily shaped crown and reaching a height of approximately 3 to 4 meters. It is also suitable for smaller gardens and intensive planting.
The fruit ripens in the second half of July. It is medium to large in size, dark red to almost black, spherical, with a firm skin and fleshy, dark red flesh. The taste is sweet and sour, juicy, aromatic, and the fruits separate easily from the pit. Thanks to the firmness of the flesh, they are suitable for transport and storage, while retaining their excellent taste and appearance. The variety is ideal for direct consumption, canning, jams, juices, and cherry brandy production.
'Nefris' is frost-resistant (down to -30 °C), but more sensitive to certain leaf and bark diseases, so it is recommended to plant it in a sunny, airy location with well-drained soil. For a higher yield, it is advisable to supplement the planting with pollinators, such as the 'Sabina' or 'Pandy' sour cherries. The yield is usually high and regular.
