Schisandra

Schisandra chinensis (Chinese magnolia vine) is a deciduous woody vine from the Schisandraceae family, native to East Asia. Botanically, it is known as the "fruit of five flavors" (Wu Wei Zi) because its fruits combine sourness, sweetness, saltiness, bitterness, and pungency. The fruit is a cluster of bright red berries arranged in long hanging clusters. Nutritionally, the fruits are rich in organic acids (especially citric and malic), vitamins C and E, as well as minerals (iron, magnesium). The phytochemical profile is unique in its high content of dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans (especially schizandrin and gomisin). These substances rank the plant among the most powerful adaptogens, which increase the body's resistance to stress and fatigue. Their hepatoprotective effects, which support liver regeneration and detoxification, are also significant.
