The blackcurrant 'Ben Connan' is a Polish self-pollinating variety with compact growth and a height of 1.5-2 m, ideal for gardens. It ripens in the second half of July and produces abundant, medium to large black berries arranged in dense clusters. The berries are tasty, sweet and sour, aromatic and firm – they do not crumble during harvesting, which ensures good sustainability on the bush
The variety is highly resistant to disease and frost (down to –30 °C), while maintaining healthy leaves until late autumn . The bushes are moderately strong, forming a compact shrub that is also suitable for small gardens or permaculture plantings.
The fruits are great for direct consumption and home processing – jams, syrups, liqueurs, or freezing. Thanks to their high vitamin C and antioxidant content, they are also nutritionally beneficial. For optimal yield, a sunny to slightly shaded location, well-drained and nutritious soil, regular watering, and pruning to promote long-term fruiting (e.g., pruning from the fourth year) are recommended.
