Actinidia deliciosa
Actinidia deliciosa is a species of climbing vine that produces the world-famous fruit – the classic, large, hairy kiwi. Its characteristic brown, fuzzy skin is removed before consumption. While the original varieties were sensitive to frost, today more resistant cultivars have been bred that can withstand colder conditions. However, in order to produce fruit, it is still necessary to have a male pollinator alongside the female plant. The fruit is an extremely rich and valuable source of vitamin C.
