- An interesting variety of American blueberry , suitable for commercial growing but also for gardeners. Bluecrop is the best known and most widespread variety of blueberry.
- Bluecrop is self-pollinating and one of the few blueberry varieties suitable for monocrop plantings. (Duke blueberries are also suitable for this purpose)
- When planning the purchase of blueberry seedlings, it is best to follow the principle of planting varieties with a similar flowering date and as closely related as possible in the vicinity.
- It also tolerates drier conditions well and suffers from root diseases when waterlogged heavily.
- It grows to a height of 200 cm. The branches are strong, thick with waxy side shoots.
- Bluecrop fruits are large spherical, slightly flattened, of good firm quality, sweet taste. They grow in clusters. They are suitable for direct consumption, processing and canning.
- It ripens at the end of July and yields approximately 6kg per bush. Harvesting can last until the beginning of September.
- Suitable pollinators for this variety are Chandler and Toro.
- It also tolerates high frosts well.
- For amateur growing, plant Bluecrop blueberry seedlings every 1.5 m in a row, keeping a distance of about 2 m between rows.
- The best time to cut blueberries is late winter and early spring. You can clearly see the flower buds, which makes it easier to decide how hard to cut. The flowering period of blueberries is considered to be the latest cutting date.
