Goji Berry Plants

Lycium barbarum (Chinese wolfberry, known as goji) is a deciduous shrub of the Solanaceae family, native to northern China. Botanically, it is characterized by long, often thorny and overhanging branches with spear-shaped leaves. The flowers are purple, funnel-shaped, and the fruit is a bright red-orange, elliptical berry that is traditionally dried in the sun. Nutritionally, it is considered a superfood due to its unique profile: it contains a complete spectrum of essential amino acids (rare in fruit), a high proportion of protein, fiber, and vitamin C. Its phytochemical profile is defined by specific proteoglycans known as LBP (Lycium barbarum polysaccharides), which have powerful immunomodulatory and neuroprotective effects. The fruit is also one of the richest natural sources of the carotenoid zeaxanthin (in the form of dipalmitate), which is key to protecting the retina and vision.
