Actinidia arguta 'Vitikiwi' is an interesting kiwi variety due to its self-pollinating nature. We can expect the first harvest as early as the second year after planting.
It grows moderately and, being a climbing plant-liana, it requires support. Its annual growth can reach up to 2 meters. It also tolerates dry conditions well.
Being self-pollinating, 'Vitikiwi' does not require a male plant for pollination. However, if the flowers are pollinated by a male Actinidia arguta, the fruits tend to be larger.
It blooms in May and yields fruits in October. The fruits have a cylindrical shape, with a smooth green skin without fuzz. They measure about 3 cm in size and weigh 7-10g.
The taste of Actinidia arguta 'Vitikiwi' is excellent, aromatic, sweet and slightly sour. It is suitable for direct consumption or processing. The fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals.
A slightly shaded location is best for cultivating this variety. It does not favor strong winds. The soil should be slightly acidic, well-draining, nutrient-rich, and sufficiently moist. It does not like to dry out.
Pruning is done similarly to grapevines. The shoots bloom and bear fruit on two-year-old wood.
This variety is highly frost-resistant, down to -20 degrees Celsius, and easy to cultivate. It is not susceptible to fungal diseases or pests.
