High compatibility: Diospyros virginiana is fully compatible with a wide range of ebony varieties, including both bitter and non-bitter cultivars.
Drought resistance: Thanks to its deep taproot, it requires less moisture and nutrients than Diospyros lotus, approximately 50% less.
Frost resistance: This rootstock is highly resistant to low temperatures and can withstand frosts down to -29 °C.
Late budding: One of its greatest advantages is its late budding in spring, approximately 10 days later than Diospyros lotus. This significantly reduces the risk of damage to flowers from late spring frosts.
Tolerance to soil conditions: It tolerates saline soils and soils with high pH well. It is also tolerant to the bacterium Agrobacterium tumefaciens, which causes root galling.
Resistance to diseases and pests: In general, it does not suffer from serious diseases or pests.
