'Alvis' is a rare Latvian hybrid plum variety that is a true champion of resilience. Its key feature is its excellent frost hardiness of both wood and flower buds, making it an ideal choice for gardeners in cold, mountainous, and marginal regions where common plums fail. The tree has a compact growth habit, blooms profusely and decoratively, and produces high yields of tasty, sweet-tart fruits with yellow flesh that separates well from the stone.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Excellent frost hardiness: Reliably withstands even very severe frosts (both wood and flower buds).
- Low, compact growth: Grows only up to 3 meters tall, suitable for small gardens.
- High and regular productivity: Delivers an abundant harvest every year, starting from the 3rd year.
- Partially self-fertile: Will set fruit even without a pollinator, though one will increase the yield.
- Very early ripening and good taste: The fruits are sweet-tart, juicy, and ripen early.
Tree
Growth is low (up to 3 m), with a crown that is pyramidal at first, later becoming spreading. It blooms very profusely and is partially self-fertile. For maximum yields, a pollinator is recommended (another hybrid plum or a cherry plum).
