Romanian August variety with large and crunchy fruits.

'Silvia' is a high-quality Romanian plum variety bred at the Piteşti – Mărăcineni institute by crossing ‘Renclod Althan’ and ‘Early Rivers’. It is particularly popular as a table variety due to its large, attractive fruits with crunchy flesh.

Variety Characteristics

Tree

• Vigor: Medium.
• Crown: Pyramidal, sparse.
• Fruiting: Bears fruit on short spurs.

Fruit

• Size and Weight: Large, weighing around 55 g.
• Shape and Color: Ellipsoidal (oval). The skin is purple-blue, covered with a thick layer of grey-blue bloom.
• Flesh: White-yellowish, crunchy, and juicy.
• Taste: Pleasant, very good.
• Stone: Separates easily from the flesh (Freestone).
• Usage: Primarily for fresh consumption (excellent table variety).

Resistance and Requirements

• Disease resistance: Resistant to Red leaf spot (Polystigma rubrum). It is mildly sensitive to Monilinia and Plum Pox Virus (PPV).

Cultivation Recommendations

• Flowering: Early.
• Pollination: Partially self-fertile. It is also a good pollinator for other varieties.
