Family Apple Tree (4 in 1): Krapes Cukuriņš + Doch Melby + Rudens Svītrainais + Antejs

A unique fruit tree combining extremely hardy Nordic and Eastern European varieties. From honey-sweet summer "candies" to a winter giant storable until May.

1. Apple 'Krapes Cukuriņš' (Late Summer Variety)

An excellent, exceptionally sweet "Candy from Krape" featuring low acidity and good frost hardiness.

The fruit season on this tree is launched by the Latvian folk-selected variety 'Krapes Cukuriņš'. It is likely a cross between the traditional 'Cukuriņš' and 'White Transparent'. It is highly sought after for its pure sweet taste, making it a favorite apple especially for children.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Candy-like taste: Delicious, sweet, aromatic flesh with very low acidity.
  • Early bearing: The tree begins producing fruit very quickly after planting.
  • Resilience: Good frost hardiness and high resistance to powdery mildew.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium to smaller spherical fruits. Greenish-yellow color with nice pink to red stripes on the sunny side.
  • Harvest Time: Late summer variety (during August).
  • Storability: Short, intended for immediate consumption and summer processing.

2. Apple 'Doch Melby' (Late Summer / Early Autumn Variety)

A juicy and hardy Russian offspring of the 'Melba' apple, reliably withstanding frosts down to -35 °C.

At the turn of summer and autumn, 'Doch Melby' ripens. Originating from the Leningrad region (Pavlovsk Station), it boasts exceptional frost hardiness and reliable crops of beautiful, red-blushed aromatic apples.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • High frost hardiness: Survives winters with temperatures down to -35 °C (-31 °F), ideal for higher altitudes.
  • Large fruits: Average weight 130 g with an attractive red blush and dots.
  • High resistance: Good resistance to scab and healthy growth.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Pulp and taste: White, very juicy, and highly aromatic flesh with a balanced sweet-sour flavor.
  • Harvest Time: Late summer to early autumn (turn of August and September).
  • Storability: Short, meant for quick consumption or canning.

3. Apple 'Rudens Svītrainais' (Autumn Variety)

An ancient legend of the Baltics. A long-lived tree with extreme robustness and juicy fruits featuring a distinct wine aroma.

The 'Rudens Svītrainais' variety (translated as Autumn Streaked) dates back to 1870. It is one of the most frost-hardy varieties in the world, offering exceptionally juicy fruits with a unique pinkish coloring of the flesh just under the skin.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Extreme frost hardiness: One of the most resilient apple trees in the world, perfect for harsh conditions.
  • Unique taste: Sweet-sour, juicy flesh with a distinct and valued wine aroma.
  • Longevity: The tree grows extremely robustly and reaches a high age with stable fertility.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium to large, light yellow apples covered with red striping.
  • Harvest Time: Mid-September. The apples taste best when harvested fully ripe.
  • Storability: Very short. Intended for immediate consumption or quick processing (juice, sauce). Fruit thinning is recommended to maintain size.

4. Apple 'Antejs' (Late Winter Variety)

The Belorussian winter king. Huge dark red fruits with excellent flavor and storability well into late spring.

This family tree is grandly completed by the excellent winter variety 'Antejs' (Antey). It is an extremely productive variety (yields up to 55 t/ha) whose fruits possess high market value. The apples are firm, very tasty, and keep fresh in the cellar until May.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Excellent storability: Apples keep in the cellar from December to March, and up to May under optimal conditions.
  • Huge fruits: Large to very large apples (200 – 250 g) with an intense bluish waxy bloom.
  • Regular cropping: Very high yield; the mature tree bears reliably every year.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance and taste: Raspberry-burgundy to dark red apples. The flesh is firm, fine-grained, juicy, and has a very pleasant sweet-sour taste (4.3 out of 5 points).
  • Harvest Time: Second half to late September. Eating maturity is reached after storage in December.
