Family Multi-Plum Tree (3 in 1): Violeta + Viktorija + Jubileum

A hardy and well-balanced combination of two exceptional Swedish plum varieties and the legendary British classic on a single trunk. Enjoy a progressive harvest of early deep blue plums, the famous commercial classic, and a large-fruited modern successor.

1. Plum 'Violeta' / syn. 'Violetta' (Early variety)

A compact Swedish variety with weak growth, very early bearing, rich blue fruits, and an outstanding sweet flavor.

In the first half of August, the Swedish variety 'Violeta' reaches maturity (bred at SLU/Balsgård in 1992, a cross of 'Grand Duke' x 'Herman'). It is a true Swedish Violeta, highly popular in the Baltic region, and perfect for smaller gardens due to its compact growth and minimal pruning needs.

Key advantages of the variety:

  • Compact habit: Reaches a height of only 2 – 3 meters and requires minimal sanitary pruning.
  • Precocious cropping: Enters bearing in the second year after planting and crops heavily and regularly.
  • Self-fertility: Fully self-fertile, although the presence of other varieties on the tree increases overall yield.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Medium to large (approx. 30 g) oval fruits of a dark purple-blue color covered in a distinct grayish bloom. The yellow flesh is firm and juicy.
  • Flavor: Highly satisfying, sweet flavor (sugar content is 16.0 °Brix). The stone separates cleanly.
  • Harvest period: First half to mid-August. Best enjoyed fresh from the tree due to short storage life.

2. Plum 'Viktorija' / syn. 'Victoria' (Medium-late to late variety)

The legendary British plum classic, famous for its extreme productivity, full self-fertility, large fruits, and outstanding versatility.

In mid-September, the famous English variety 'Viktorija' (syn. Denyer's Victoria) reaches eating ripeness. Discovered as a chance seedling in Suffolk and named in honor of Queen Victoria, it was introduced to the market in 1844. It is an absolute standard across European home gardens due to its rapid and heavy cropping.

Key advantages of the variety:

  • Enormous cropping: Enters bearing early and yields massive, consistent crops. It also serves as an excellent universal pollinator for other plum varieties.
  • Attractive appearance: Large, oval-to-ovoid fruits featuring a beautiful reddish-violet skin and a shiny skin that peels away with ease.
  • Universal utility: Highly satisfying for eating fresh from the tree, and outstanding for jams, pies, crumbles, and stewing.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Flesh and flavor: Pale yellow, firm, and juicy flesh. When fully ripe, the flavor is harmonious, sweet, and of excellent quality.
  • Harvest period: Mid-September.
  • Grower's note: Due to extreme overcropping, the tree can exhaust itself (which may shorten its overall lifespan) and branches can easily break under the weight of the fruit. Radical fruit thinning in summer is absolutely critical. In wet weather or when tightly clustered, fruits can be prone to brown rot (monilia).

3. Plum 'Jubileum' (Medium-early variety)

A modern Swedish large-fruited variety with excellent cold hardiness, superb disease resistance, and the benefit of not requiring hand thinning.

Completing this collection is the modern Swedish variety 'Jubileum' (introduced in 1984 as a cross of 'Giant' x 'Yakima'). It is considered an improved and healthier successor of 'Viktorija'. In Scandinavia, it is often sold under the "Jubileum E" (E-planta) quality mark, which guarantees completely virus-free and frost-resistant stock.

Key advantages of the variety:

  • No hand thinning needed: Unlike 'Victoria', the fruits maintain their large size without summer thinning, and the sturdy branches do not break.
  • Superb taste and look: Large, oval fruits of purple-black color with blue bloom. Taste is sweet with a refreshing acidity and pleasant aroma.
  • Highly winter-hardy: Exceptionally suited for colder, harsh regions.
  • Robust health: Excellent general health and high resistance to fungal diseases.
Fruit and Harvest
  • Flesh and flavor: Light yellow to orange, firm, and moderately to highly juicy flesh. The stone separates easily from the flesh.
  • Harvest period: Mid-August to early September. Keeps well in a refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Grower's note: The variety is partially to fully self-fertile and pollinates perfectly with its 'Viktorija' partner on the tree. Yields may fluctuate slightly in some years.
