Pear (Pyrus communis) 'Beurré Hardy'
French autumn variety with melting flesh and spicy flavor.
'Beurré Hardy' (often just 'Hardy') is an old French pear variety named after the director of the Luxembourg Gardens. It is popular for its buttery, juicy fruits with characteristic russet skin and excellent taste. It is a vigorous and hardy variety, though it requires better quality soils.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Excellent taste (sweet, spicy, aromatic).
- Fine, melting, and very juicy flesh ("butter pear").
- High and regular yield.
- Good storability and transportability.
- Vigorous growth and nice crown formation.

Tree
- Vigor: Medium to strong (can reach 5-6 m). The crown is wide and pyramidal.
- Requirements: Requires moister, nutrient-rich soils and sheltered locations. Not suitable for dry and sandy soils.
Fruit
- Size: Medium large.
- Shape: Conical to ovoid, without a distinct neck.
- Skin: Rough, green-yellow, almost completely covered with brown-bronze russeting (typical feature).
- Flesh: Yellowish, buttery (melting), very juicy.
- Taste: Sweet, subacid, with a fine spicy aroma (rose water notes).
- Usage: Fresh consumption, processing (compotes, jams), tolerates transport well (though sensitive to pressure when fully ripe).
