We introduce you to the 'Bingo' mini-kiwi, a frost-hardy variety that will bring not only an abundant harvest to your garden but also a unique taste experience. This Polish variety, created by crossing Actinidia purpurea 'Purpurnaja Sadovaja' and Actinidia arguta, is suitable not only for home gardeners but also for commercial production thanks to its exceptional fertility and attractive fruits.
The main advantage of the 'Bingo' variety is its beautiful fruits. They are smooth, without any unpleasant fuzz, so you can eat them directly with the skin, just like grapes. The fruits have a cylindrical shape, slightly flattened on the sides, and captivate with their unique color, which ranges from light pink to a deep red. Beneath the attractive skin lies a light green flesh that will surprise you with its excellent, sweet, and aromatic flavor with subtle notes of pineapple. The average weight of the fruits is 8 - 14 g, and from a single mature vine, you can harvest dozens of kilograms of this delicious, vitamin C-rich superfood.
The 'Bingo' mini-kiwi is a vigorously growing, climbing vine that can grow up to two meters per year and reaches a height of up to 8 meters when mature. For its growth, it absolutely requires a sturdy support, such as a pergola, fence, or trellis, around which its shoots can twine. In June, it will delight you with small white flowers. It is important to know that 'Bingo' is a purely female variety, so for fruit production, it needs a pollinator nearby – a male plant of the same species, for example, the proven variety 'Weiki' (male). One male plant can reliably pollinate 6 to 8 female plants. The fruits begin to ripen from mid-September, and you can enjoy the harvest until October.
Growing this variety is surprisingly simple. It requires a sunny, warm, and sheltered location protected from the wind. It thrives in fertile, moist, and well-drained soil. A major advantage is its high resistance to fungal diseases and pests. It is fully frost-hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -28 °C, which makes it an ideal plant for our climatic conditions.
