The 'Węgierka Zwykła' plum is a very old variety of unknown origin, probably originating in Asia Minor. It came to Europe through wars and migrations and has been known in Poland since the middle of the 17th century.

The trees grow moderately vigorously, forming a conical crown when young, which later becomes spherical and evenly thickened. They require intensive pruning. They flower relatively late, most often in the second decade of May, with white-greenish flowers. The variety is self-pollinating, which makes it a good pollinator for other plums.

The fruits are small to medium-sized, weighing 20-30 g, oval to slightly elongated in shape. The skin is brownish-purple to garnet, covered with a distinctive blue waxy coating. The flesh is golden yellow, firm, medium juicy, sweet and aromatic, easily separable from the stone. The fruit ripens in mid-September; later harvesting increases its sweetness.

The variety is moderately frost-resistant and susceptible to plum scarlet fever. It requires a sunny site with fertile, humid and moist soil. It produces abundantly and regularly.

The use of Myrobalán (Ałycza) rootstock ensures strong tree growth, suitable for growing in different types of soil, including drier and wetter ones, and in poorer climatic conditions. Myrobalan has a deep root system that anchors the saplings well, tolerates soils with higher calcium content and has good health and above-average hardiness.

The fruit is suitable for direct consumption, drying, jam and plum brandy production. Thanks to their taste, they are also appreciated in confectionery.
