Family Apple Tree (4 in 1): Roberts + Rīgas Rožābele + Doch Melby + Edīte

A unique multi-grafted tree ensuring a sequential harvest of fresh apples from mid-August through the winter. The perfect space-saving solution.

1. Apple 'Roberts' (Early Summer Variety)

Large, dark red summer apple with high scab resistance and extreme frost hardiness.

The 'Roberts' variety kicks off the apple season on this tree. It impresses with highly attractive, large fruits of a dark purple-red color. It boasts high resistance to apple scab and frost, making it an ideal variety for organic growing without intensive chemical sprays.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Early harvest: One of the first high-quality summer varieties of the season.
  • Beautiful fruits: Large apples with a dark purple-red hue.
  • High resistance: Reliably immune to apple scab (Vf/Rvi6 gene).
Tree and Fruit
  • Vigor: Medium vigor, the crown is rather sparse and upright. Enters the bearing phase quickly.
  • Fruit: Large to very large. The skin is firm with a heavy waxy bloom.
  • Flavor: Yellowish, crunchy, and juicy flesh. The taste is sweet-sour and aromatic. Tastes best picked straight from the tree.
Harvest and Storage
  • Harvest Time: Early summer, ripens in mid-August (similar to 'Discovery').
  • Storability: Short, meant for quick consumption (lasts approx. 2 months in the fridge).

2. Apple 'Rīgas Rožābele' (Late Summer Variety)

Riga Pink Apple – a low-maintenance Latvian variety with juicy flesh that thrives even in poor soils.

The 'Rīgas Rožābele' variety is a historical Latvian seedling from 1940. It is characterized by weaker growth and incredible adaptability to poor soil conditions. It is a rewarding, early-bearing variety with a delicate sweet-sour taste.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Soil tolerance: Grows well even where other varieties struggle.
  • Weak vigor: Ideal for maintaining the compact habit of a multi-grafted tree.
  • Early bearing: Very quick onset of production with good resistance to scab.
Tree and Fruit
  • Vigor: Relatively weak, resists scab and apple canker well.
  • Fruit: Small to medium-sized, yellow with red stripes (ribbed). Visually less attractive, but excellent in taste.
  • Flavor: The flesh is very juicy, tender, sweet-sour, and delicious.
Harvest and Storage
  • Harvest Time: Late summer variety (late August to early September).
  • Storability: Can be stored for a short period, better than standard early summer apples.

3. Apple 'Doch Melby' (Autumn Variety)

A highly productive Russian offspring of the 'Melba' apple, delivering juicy fruits and tolerating frosts down to -35 °C.

The 'Doch Melby' variety originates from the Leningrad region. It provides a smooth transition from summer to autumn. It boasts fantastic frost hardiness and rich, regular crops of beautiful, red-blushed apples.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Extreme frost hardiness: Suitable even for harsh climates (withstands up to -35 °C / -31 °F).
  • Large fruits: Average weight 130 g, almost completely covered with a red blush.
  • High productivity: Yields approx. 35 kg from its mature section of the canopy; high scab resistance.
Tree and Fruit
  • Vigor and Blooming: Medium vigor, forms a compact crown. Blooms with beautiful large, pink-white flowers.
  • Fruit and Flavor: Round fruits; the light green base color is covered with red striping. White, very juicy, and aromatic flesh.
Harvest and Storage
  • Harvest Time: Late summer to early autumn (usually during September).
  • Storability: Short shelf life, versatile use for fresh eating and processing.

4. Apple 'Edīte' (Early Winter Variety)

A modern Latvian winter variety that closes the season with bright red, highly storable apples.

The 'Edīte' variety is the grand finale of this family tree, securing your apple supply for the winter. It excels with attractive, bright orange-red fruits, total scab resistance, and excellent storability, during which its flavor harmonizes even further.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Long shelf life: In a good cellar, fruits last until February/March.
  • Flavor development: Acids break down during storage, creating a perfectly balanced taste.
  • 100% resistance: Immune to apple scab (Vf/Rvi6 gene) and fruit rot.
Tree and Fruit
  • Vigor: Medium vigor with a spreading crown and regular productivity.
  • Fruit and Flavor: Medium to large (70–80 mm). The yellowish flesh with a pinkish tint is firm, crunchy, and juicy.
Harvest and Storage
  • Harvest Time: Early October. Fruits hang very well on the tree.
  • Eating Maturity: Reached from November onwards. Note: Towards the end of storage (spring), the skin may tend to brown, signaling it should be consumed soon.
