Pear (Pyrus communis) 'Tudor'

Autumn Romanian variety with very large fruits and resistance to Pear Psylla.

'Tudor' is a modern autumn pear variety bred at the SCDP Voinești station. It is characterized by huge and attractive fruits, which can reach a weight of up to 300 g. It is the result of a complex cross and is valued by growers for its resistance to diseases and pests, especially to the Pear Psylla.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Very large fruits (250 – 300 g).
  • Resistance to Pear Psylla and Scab.
  • Fine flesh without stone cells.
  • Attractive fruits with a red blush.
  • Long consumption period (until November).

Variety Characteristics

Tree
  • Vigor: Medium.
  • Crown: Pyramidal, formed by long scaffold branches.
  • Fruiting: Flower buds form on medium-length and short branches.
Fruit
  • Size and Weight: Very large, weighing 250 – 300 g.
  • Shape and Color: Slightly asymmetric. Base color is yellow, covered with light red on half of the surface.
  • Flesh: Creamy color, fine and juicy. It is free of stone cells (sclereids).
  • Taste: Very good.
  • Usage: Suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
Resistance and Requirements
  • Resistance: The variety is resistant to Scab and to Pear Psylla.
Harvest and Storage
  • Consumption maturity: Autumn variety. Fruits are consumable from harvest until October – November.
